The FIA Foundation

From The FIA Foundation website:

“The Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity in the UK (No. 1088670). The Foundation is independent and under the control of its Trustees who are required to act within the powers conferred upon them in our Memorandum and Articles of Association and in the best interests of the charity. We remain bound by the laws of the UK, including the Charities Act 1993 (as amended by the Charities Act 2006) and Bribery Act 2010. We take a zero tolerance approach to bribery and this is set out in our Anti-bribery and Corruption Policy adopted by the Board of Trustees in November 2011.”

“The Foundation was established in 2001 with a donation of $300 million made by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the non-profit federation of motoring organisations and the governing body of world motor sport. To clarify the relationship between the Foundation and the FIA the Board of Trustees adopted a statement on this subject in November 2010.”

“Having completed ten years work in 2011 the Foundation has completed a strategy review. The Board of Trustees examined the global trends that are relevant to the Foundation’s work over the next decade, the effectiveness of its grant making activities, and the governance of the charity including its relationship with the FIA. Arising from the strategy review, and also to comply with the requirements of the UK Bribery Act 2010, the Foundation has updated its governance system and adopted some significant changes to its grant making process. A summary of the strategy review which contains an overview of the Foundation’s priorities over the next ten years is available.”

“The Foundation has consultative status with the Economic & Social Council of the United Nations, participates in various UN road safety and environment related working parties and is a member of the UN Global Road Safety Collaboration. It also provides the secretariat for the Make Road Safe campaign and the independent Commission for Global Road Safety. The Foundation is also a member of the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative.”
