| About the Fleet Forum |
|
Founded in 2003 as a joint initiative of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and World Vision International (WVI), the Fleet Forum is an interagency association of more than 40 members, including NGOs, international organisations, the UN, academic institutions, donors and corporate partners. Aid organisations face unprecedented challenges around the world as a result of the increased scale and scope of natural and man-made disasters, coupled with the need to continue on-going relief and development programmes. This expanding humanitarian activity brings with it a growing need for efficient transport capacity and a pressing requirement to improve the way in which organisations manage their vehicle fleets. The Fleet Forum has been conceived as a collaborating body, which by drawing upon the expertise and input of multi-sectoral stakeholders, is able to stimulate the building of humanitarian transport capacity to positively impact the delivery of aid & development programmes. Engaging with the commercial sector as a part of their corporate social responsibility strategies, the Fleet Forum acts as a neutral interface to draw on private sector resources to achieve its humanitarian transport objectives. Current Fleet Forum members operate a combined humanitarian fleet in excess of 80,000 vehicles with an estimated operating cost of US$800 million.
