Humanitarian Development Summit 2007 Conference Report Print
Our participation in HDS Nairobi has clearly demonstrated the need for regionally focused events that bring together our member organisations, with other agencies who also undertake humanitarian logistics operations to discuss the latest trends and tools for the sector. In addition, having commercial companies present, allowed for us to collaborate on creating new solutions utilising the capacity of their businesses to benefit humanitarian operations.
Rob McConnell, Fleet Forum Coordinator

thumb_nairobi_1With nearly 800 attendees at the Humanitarian Development Summit (HDS), leading humanitarian agencies and commercial vehicle and logistics companies gathered for the Fleet Forum's conference which was opened by The Honourable Chirau Ali Mwakwere, Kenyan Minister of Transport.  The Fleet Forum's decision to embark on a partnership with HDS was to focus on greater regional private sector collaboration across Africa, and continuous dialogue, while also encouraging membership of regional humanitarian agencies to the Fleet Forum.

thumb_ff__hdp_nairobi_2Collaboration is key to the work the Fleet Forum undertakes as a knowledge centre and catalyst of change in the humanitarian fleet sector.  To encourage networking between attendees, the conference session was followed by a barbecue in the vehicle display pavilion where attendees were able to meet with other organisations and commercial entities and continue the dialogue begun during the conference.
