Fleet Forum Wins International Award

pm_logoThe Fleet Forum is pleased to announce that on 8 July 2009 our achievements in leading the charge to change fleet safety standards and practices throughout the developing world were rewarded with the Prince Michael of Kent International Road Safety Award.   This award, which is  given to organisations that represent the most outstanding examples of international road safety achievements and innovations, recognises the Fleet Forum's Fleet Safety Project as an innovative, committed, replicable initiative that has made real strides in making roads safer.

The award ceremony was opened by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Patron of the Commission for Global Road Safety who explained, ‘My Awards recognise innovation and reward success and most importantly they help to communicate these ideas to a wider audience, spreading knowledge and awareness of what works in road safety.'  Presenting the Fleet Forum with his international road safety award, HRH Prince Michael, said,  ‘This excellent work by the Forum, in conjunction with the private sector, is a fine example of how to spread knowledge and awareness of what works.'  Receiving the award on behalf of the Fleet Forum was Rose van Steijn, the Fleet Forum's Programme Manager who has led the project to it completion and continues to champion the cause of fleet safety.

PMOK_Rose_HRHIt was the Fleet Forum's partnership with the private sector, and other organisations, through a Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) funded Public-Private Partnership scheme that provided the financial backing to develop, pilot test, and produce the Fleet Safety Toolkit.  This pairing illustrates the success that can be gained when different sectors collaborate to generate positive results for the humanitarian community.  Our continued commitment to knowledge sharing, means the final toolkit has been made easily available to all interested organisations through a simple online download, while further direct support from the Fleet Forum, including training can be requested.

The Fleet Forum would like to thank HRH Prince Michael of Kent for recognising the Fleet Forum's work, and supporting our drive to better the impact the humanitarian community is making around the world.  We would also like to thank all the organisations who participated in this project.  It is their support, time, resources, inputs, and commitment which has made this possible.  We hope to continue to bring the Fleet Safety Toolkit to all organisations which are committed to improving their fleet safety practices and creating an environment  honouring their ‘duty of care' to staff and beneficiaries.
