Launching New Environment Project

Developing Guidelines for Green Procurement

thumb_ff_greenIn response to commitment from the United Nations to promote sustainable procurement, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Fleet Forum have joined together to develop tools and guidelines to progressively integrate sustainability aspects in UN procurement practices for vehicles.

Working with a specialist expert within the Partnership for Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles, Shoa Eshani, the project will have three key deliverables:

  1. Guidelines for the purchase of more sustainable vehicles designed for use by UN procurers and for procurers in other large organisations
  2. Background note illustrating the technological and policy related considerations behind the requirements made in the guidelines and providing requisitioners and procurers an understanding of the sustainability aspects related to the manufacturing and use of vehicles and an overview of the current state of play in the field of Cleaner vehicles and fuels.
  3. Further information sources for requisitioners and procurers (fuel availability maps, clean fleet management kit, etc.)

Working in partnership with a number of agencies to gain their insights into procurement issues, needs, and specifications as they relate to vehicles, the final outcomes will be made available to the humanitarian community  through online channels for ease of use.
