Insurance guidelines

How humanitarian fleets are insured is a top of mind concern for participating Fleet Forum organizations. In order to understand this area and move us one step closer to Responsible Fleet Operation, Fleet Forum has administered the Fleet Insurance Survey in cooperation with Kjaer Group and TNT.  Approximately 60% of the Forum's members have responded to this survey, so the findings and potential conclusions can impact approximately 52,000 vehicles. In 2009 an Insurance Specialist from TNT has updated the study and developed a simple decision making tool for Fleet Insurance.

In this study, local policies for Anglophone, Lusophone and Francophone Africa were reviewed, thus giving us the opportunity to make several assumptions about coverage, mobility and inter-operability of these local insurance programs.  Guided by the principle that you cannot worry about insurance when the house is on fire, this review highlights what are major coverage concerns, with an aim to limit exposures at the time of loss and enhance the ability to manage risks proactively.  It should be noted that this study does not assert to be fully comprehensive of all the local laws and regulations governing insurance, rather it should serve as a decision making tool and should help inform insurance procurement and risk management practices.  Furthermore, the findings are decidedly negative as they focus on the seldom read "fine print."
