The Fleet Forum manages an expanding portfolio of projects within the overall framework of its Three Pillars of operation:
The aim of these projects is to raise awareness and enhance knowledge in areas critical to humanitarian fleet management, by producing documentation and training materials to build capacity and promote adherence to best practices. To encourage the development of innovative new ideas through the exchange of information and expertise, the Fleet Forum conducts an annual conference, regional meetings and additional roundtable discussions and workshops, in addition to providing access to a network of humanitarian and private sector stakeholders. In order to raise awareness and promote professionalism in fleet management and operations, the Fleet Forum utilises expert information and research to produce studies and publications on key aspects of humanitarian transport, as well as best practices and minimum operating standards. Providing multiple channels for knowledge exchange and learning, the Fleet Forum communicates through regular newsletters designed to share information and current thinking on a range of critical developments affecting humanitarian fleet operations. In 2007, Fleet Forum Direction, the Forum's official publication for the aid and development community was launched.
Current Initiatives It is vital that aid and development organisations implement road safety standards not only as a duty of care to our own staff and other road users, but also as a means of advocating road safety as a key development issue. By adhering to simple tried and tested fleet safety standards and integrating training into our organisations we can significantly reduce the number of road traffic incidents. Fleet Insurance Guidelines - Insurance significantly impacts costs for fleet operators, but the challenge of selecting the correct type can be a daunting task. Specifically developed guidelines for the aid and development community assist fleet operators in their search for the more appropriate insurance model and coverage. Sustainable Procurement Guidelines - Minimising the environmental impact of transport operations begins with the point of purchase of vehicles. In partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, guidelines on how to purchase vehicles with high environmental relief potential in a socially-responsible manner have been developed and are available for use. |
