Driver Recognition Programme

Driver Recognition Programme

South East Asia:

After two highly successful programmes in East Africa, we are pleased to announce that with the support of PAE and RMA, Fleet Forum will be the Driver Recognition Programme to South East Asia. The programme will start in August 2017 and will come to a closure with the Driving Champions Final taking place in May 2018 in Bangkok.

RMA and PAE | Title Sponsor

Over the past 60 years PAE supported complex and critical missions by providing global logistics and stability operations in some of the most challenging environments in the world. Safe road travel is a cornerstone of PAE’s support, and they have undertaken the task of training thousands of drivers in various countries over the past six decades, with the dual objective of expanding their own talented workforce and imparting professional skills to the communities where they operate.

GreenMe

“In line with the 2023-2028 Fleet Forum strategy ‘Sustainable Transport for a Better World’, our new GreenMe project is supporting and incentivising the concrete operationalisation of global sustainability objectives into day-to-day fleet management.

Designed for fleet managers on the ground, it will allow them to walk the talk of their organisation’s global CO2 emissions reduction commitment, by implementing actions for impact following the ‘avoid, shift, improve’ typology.

GreenMe will drive progress in the sector and paves the way to what tomorrow’s fleet and mobility management should be.”

Paul Jansen, Executive Director, Fleet Forum

Many aid and development organisations have committed to reduce their environmental impact, many of them pledging to achieve significant CO2 emission reduction by 2030.

To achieve these ambitious goals, organisations need to act now and start implementing activities that lower their negative impact on the climate and environment. Fleet is one of the areas where significant reductions can be achieved.

Fleet Forum, supported by USAID/BHA, is developing the GreenMe program. The program aims to support humanitarian organisations to implement and measure clean fleet initiatives.

With GreenMe, Fleet Forum aims to accelerate the implementation and measurement of green fleet initiatives, particularly among INGOs and local NGOs. We envision that the GreenMe programme provides practical tools to fleet managers, use peer learning such as in-country benchmarking and assessments as well as methodologies to increase personal involvement of staff to achieve the organizational sustainability goals.

What do we expect?

Fleet Forum expects to develop a toolkit consisting of benchmarks and assessments, practical implementation guidance and recommendation that fleet managers can use to reduce emissions and air pollutants of their fleet and save money for their organisations.  Fleet Managers can earn points by implementing actions and learn from their peers in- and outside their organisation.

A prototype of GreenMe will be available for organisations to pilot throughout the months of June and July 2023. This is an opportunity for Fleet Managers to provide feedback, both written and oral, on the program, evaluate how effective it is and be pro-actively part of its design. We expect it will take between 2-3 hours per week to take part in the pilot. Participation in the GreenMe programme is free of charge.

Fleet Forum expect the profile of participants to be:

  • People who want to be a pioneer and work with us on this new platform

  • People who can commit to ‘seeing it through’ and actioning change however small

  • Fleet Managers with a green heart

  • Organisations that wish to take practical steps in reducing emissions

  • Organisations that allow space to Fleet Managers to implement recommendations

The benefits

The GreenMe programme supports organisations to:

  • Reduce the demand for transport by fossil fuelled vehicles1

  • Reduce of the kilometres driven by fossil fuelled vehicles

  • Reduce CO2 emissions and air pollutants related to fleet

  • Reduce fleet costs. Cost savings between 10% and 15% are realistically achievable

  • Gain insight in the environmental performance of the fleet

  • Increase the sense of ownership for the climate goals of organisation

  • Increase the capacity of fleet managers to improve the environmental performance of their fleet

Many of the recommended actions in GreenMe (such as rightsizing, managing fuel consumption, managing fleet waste, coaching drivers to drive eco-friendly, etc.) should be part of the fleet managers tasks already and are not considered in the time investment.

In summary, the pilot project is:

  • 8 weeks

  • Open to those that fit the profile

  • Requires time commitment of 2-3 hours per week [total 16-24 hours]

  • Free

“Fleet Managers in aid and development organisations are tasked to reduce the emissions of their fleet. The GreenMe Toolkit aims to support them, through benchmarks, recommendations for practical and implementable actions as well as bringing fleet managers together to jointly green their fleets”
